School and Sport Partnerships’ Conference
‘At the Cutting Edge Realising the Ambition’
I attended the conference wich took place on 28–29 November at the International Centre in Telford.
The focus for this year’s Youth Sport Trust School and Sport Partnerships’ Conference was the young people and the support teams that encourage them to succeed.
The two-day conference explored the joint working of School Sport Partnerships, County Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies and Local Education Authorities and the aim to increase and improve young people’s participation, as part of the PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) Strategy.
Day one looked at sharing and improving practice, while day two gave opportunities for Partnership Development Managers to develop new skills in sessions led by their peers and national experts.

In the evening, I joined Kevin Brenna – Minister for Children, Schools and Families – and Darren Campbell on stage at during the gala dinner, to present the honours at the annual Youth Sport Trust Development Awards. The awards recognise the excellent and high quality development work being made in more than 400 School Sport Partnerships across the country.
I did a speech on the second day of the conference
The day focused on the people behind the young people and in particular, their own skill development.

At 8am this morning I was at Harris Girls Academy with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Ed Balls the secretary of state Children Schools and Families. This was to announce that the results of the school sport survey and again there has been a great increase of the number of people taking part in school sport. It was also to high light the need for more females to take up sport which is of interest to me and why I started Girls Active. It is a fantastic Academy and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone there.
