National School Sport Champion
The Annual Conference of the National Association of Head Teachers
2-4 May 2008
BT Conference Centre, Liverpool
I attended the conference on Saturday 3rd May 2008 in my role as The National School Sport Champion.
The theme of the conference was ‘Dare to be Creative’.
Participants where school leaders in all education establishments dealing with pupils up to 19 years old (heads, deputies and assistant heads).
I addressed delegates on Saturday, speaking about my role as The National School Sport Champion and I explained how I make a difference with school leaders and pupils. Before I started I was given a standing ovation which I was very touched by. I also got them to stay up doing a silly co-ordination routine I do just to get them laughing which went down well.
Keynote speakers throughout the 3 days focused on topics such as:
-looking at not being afraid to ask pupils to challenge themselves, to use everything that they encounter in their lives creatively
-Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom in formal settings
-Looking at broadening the experiences, developing “softer” skills which are increasingly relevant
It was a good couple of hours the only downside it was in Liverpool and a Bank holiday so I shot off quick!!
