National School Sport Champion

My role as National School Sport Champion is backed by the Government, managed by the Youth Sport trust and supported by Norwich Union.

I’m proud of my role, working to inspire and motivate young people into leading a more active lifestyle,.and I really want to make a difference.

I listen to what the people involved in PE and School Sport around the country have to say and I work with them to improve opportunities for young people.

My first year mission as National School Sport Champion was to help reach the Government’s target to get 75% of children participating in two hours of high quality PE and school sport a week… Government’s target was smashed! Through everyone’s hard work we managed to hit 80% for 2006.

Following this acheivement my role was relaunched in May 2007. Now it’s time to step it up – we need to help the Government raise participation levels to at least 85% by 2008 and offer all children four hours of sport a week by 2010.

As a part of my role I visit schools and attend events for teachers and young people up and down the country. I meet as many teachers and young people as possible, although I know I’m not be able to meet all of the people I would like to!
