I was reading today about former tennis champion Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with breast cancer. These days they are getting better at treating this disease, but it must be a worry for her. I hope she gets over it. She was a great champion.

That's terrible news Steve. She was truely one of the greatest players ever. I do wish her all the best for a speedy recovery.

Last night I watched a 52 year old win his first round in a snooker championship. Steve (the nugget) Davis battled away and came out on top against young Mark King.:cheer::thumbup: Which just goes to prove, some talents stay with you for life. I'm sure Dame Kelly could still give the younger one's a good race. Steve Davis has John Higgins in the next round, so that's possibly as far as Steve Davis goes in this competion, but who knows.
  2.
Ronnie O'sullivan has admitted that he finds Steve Davis an inspiration, and wishes that he was more like him. By the way, Ronnie is a keen club runner and has run sub 36 min 10ks.

I was able to watch the first two sessions of Steve Davis v John Higgins second round snooker competion, but sadly had to miss the last session yesterday when Steve Davis won the round 13 - 11. What with my team West Ham beating Wigan, it was good day for me. West Ham still cant relax yet and Steve Davis realy has call apon all his expereience to overcome the Australian in the next round. Both theses sporting feats, should inspire all those who enter into competitive sport, don't give up, keep going as did all the London Marathon runners did today. clap::cheer::thumbup::swingin::smile:

Most of you on here would not have heard of Tony Carr. Tony Carr, for the past 37 years has been the director of West Ham United's Accadamy. He was responsible for discovery and nurtering these present England players: John Terry, Reo Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Jermain Defoe and Glenn Johnson, who all started their football carree at West Ham. This Wednesday the 5th of May, West Ham United are giving Tony Carr a testiminual at Upton Park. Most of the above will be there to play and pay tribute to the guy who showed them how to be what they are today. The tickets are only £15 and I have one. So I will be going to see West Ham of the past play West Ham of the present. Should be a good game.

I had a great night at Upton Park last night where West Ham United played Tony Carrs Academy All-Stars. Tony Carr is West Ham's Academy and was resposible for many of the present England players and those who have gone before. To get an idea of what Tony has achieved and to see some famous faces, go to West Ham's web site, the address is as follows: http://www.whufc.com/articles/20100506/tonys-testimonial-in-pictures_2236884_2044691

I've found a couple of inspiring interviews you may want to read. The first is on this web site with Sir Steve Redgrave, Seb Coe and Dame Kelly. All sounding very positive regarding the Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympics. The second interview can be found on the bbc's athletics sports page and its with Lisa Debriskey regarding the drug cheats and the British competition in 1500. That's gong to be some battle between the three girls for tonight's semi finals and hopefully in the final, which I think is Sunday.

What an awsome night of athletics with the European Championships. 6 medals including 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze. Our three 1500 ladies qualified for final on Sunday, Jessica is in the lead with 3 events to go and we still have our Gold and Silver winners from the 10,000 to do the 5,000 also on Sunday. Pitty about our 1500 guys, I don't know what happened there. But as it stands tonight Friday the 30th of July, we are 3rd in the medal table.:cheer::clap::swingin::thumbup::smile:

Thanks Dame Kelly for my signed copy of your book, it arrived safely at my new address today the 25th. It seems an age since I purchased and read the original version (twice). I've put the new one in my 'must take items' for my holiday and will have a good read while on the beach in the Isle of White. I too hope we can all meet some day soon.:smile::kissing:
