As I was away last weekend I recorded last weekends bbc coverage of the European Team Championships of both Saturday and Sunday. I've just finished playing back both programs and was very impressed with Team GB and Northan Island. Second place was very impressive. Too many good performances to mention all of them. I think Hannah English looks a good prospect for the future, one of Dame Kelly's I believe. They say theres more athletics this coming weekend so I will be setting my sky plus again.:swingin::thumbup::smile:

    bring on day 2!

    Well done Torz!

I ran in the Lordshill 10k this morning, in 30 deg heat. My time was 54.08 which is my slowest ever, but considering the temperature, I was quite pleased. Hope it is cooler for the New Forest 10 mile in 2 weeks time.

thankyou! well done in your10K! dont worry about the time as the heat was so great and i can empathise with the fact that is was very hot as i was exhausted aftr the 800! and that is a LOT less than what you ran!

today was a disaster for me.
    lj was average.
javelin was a complete disaster. my warm-up throws were good, over 25 and were legal throws. but in competition i got 2 no throws. i had no choice on my thiurd throw other having to walk up to the line and stab it in the ground just so i got some points. i was so disappointed not only individually but as the Cheshire team were going for a win.
in my 800, it was so so hot and i had to just go for it, i ran 2.40.1 which is .2 off my pb and so if it had been cooler i would have ran a big pb.
i finished 9th in the end and cheshire were 2nd.
i am disappointed howqever it was my first heptathlon and so im writing it off as experience and i am going to learn from my mistakes so next time i will be able to have a good shot at it!

Well done torz for day 1! Dont be too harsh on yourself and asa you said use it as a learning expireince!
It sounds like the weather in England atm is like the weather! You just have to make sure you stay in the shade as much as possible when not competing and make sure you drink alot of electrolite!

thank you HS. I have spoken to my coach tonight and we have sorted out a summer programme of training for me. I won't be doing any more heptathlons this summer as I am away etc however my coach and I both decided that training hard is the best option and then coming back stronger next time :)

I've finished watching last weekend's athletics and again I was impressed with some great British performances. The thing is, can these great performances be transered to international level. It would be great if it could. I believe there's more athletics on the red button next week.

Had a phone call from my pe teacher today asking to compete for school on wednesday in a '6 event challenge' in the schools around my area. I think he had to pull a few ropes to get me in as Im no longer at school, but will be nice to compete on the track again. Consists of 200, 400, 800, High jump, Long jump and javelin, so a nice mix. Looking forward to the 800, but with longer distances in my legs, I dont know how im going to fair! Looking forward to HJ, should be brilliant to be back in my favourite event again!

  4.
Good luck Jack in the "6 event challenge."

I've got a multi terrain 10 mile race in the New Forest on Sunday.

good luck torz. Was great to be doing a bit of everything again today, heres a summary 200- Was hoping for 29, pb being 28.1, Had an appalling start but otherwise the bend was good and I finished fast. Came 3rd in 27.9, very pleased. HJ- Havent competed in this for a long time, but shocked myself by jumping 1.50- came second but was still in 3rd 400- Had a good first 50 then relaxed, cruised up the back straight and was in 5thish at half. Ran a good bend and was 4th, kid in lead was miles ahead and I kept pushing. I came 2nd in 60.7, a huuuuuuugee pb from 67.7 I did 2 years ago. At half way I was in third, with 1418 points LJ- Nothing special, only 4.05m dropped to 5th Javelin- Came as a huge shock, threw 26.95 meters, First event of the day I won but I was still only in 4th place. 800- legs were tired, but with the 10k training it wasnt a huge problem. Best being 2.28, I was looking at getting that time. Went threw the first lap in 67, thought 's***!'. Legs were seriously dying in the last 200 but still won by 7 seconds, in 2.19.2! Highlight of the day for me. Overall, I came 3rd, got 2352 points, second got 2402 and the winner got 2455. Pleased :)

hey tiggs, i competed hj this morningg but i got roped into doing the relay yesterday! anyone who knows me knows i cant really sprint but i did it anyway and ran first elg- i was in 3rd when i passed on the baton :) in the end we came 5th in our heat so didnt wualify but it was a good experience :)
    this morning in hj. omg.
there were 22 people in it and i came in at 54. cleared 54,59,62 first time and then on 65 i had a disaster, i watched 2 of my main rivals fail it first time and so i knew it was important to get it first time, but i failed. then all 3 of us failed it again(as well as loads of other people) and then i was starting to panic and feel the pressure but i managed to hold it together and clear it on my 3rd attempt. then on 1.68 there were about 8 left in and i cleared it on my second go. only two of us cleared it meaning i had got a silver medal and come 2nd! :D
on 1.71 i was so close but didnt get it but the winner, someone i jump against often won with 1.78! she got a 7cm pb and she looked so good and she deserved it.
Im so happy with 2nd :D because it also means that i am competing for england next weekend in scotland! we had a team meeting right at the end of ES today and we got our kit and everything! its so exciting!
also, i spoke to Kelly after we had our presentation which was nice :) :)

Well done Torz a terrific performance. Great to have spoken with Kelly!

I ran in the New Forest multi terrain 10 mile race this morning, which started at 11.15 in searing heat. I took it really easy and was pleased with my time of 89.00 mins. as I had expected to take 90 mins.

got home earlier today after going straight to young athletes after gettin off the train!
This weekend was such a great experience!
however, conditions were no where near ideal for high jump! we were jumping with a +5 head wind! i moved my run up forward quite a lot and i was doing fine but then the wind picked up more and i came down on the bar on nearly all my jumps
i only jumped 1.60 but came 5th on countback, the winner got 1.70 which isnt that high but just proves that the conditions were far form ideal.
i was happy with my competition though as i know i did my best and the fact that i even got to compete for england, i thought, was a great experience anyway :)

Well done to Mo and Chris in the European Championship's. 1st and 2nd. How good was that.:cheer::clap::swingin::thumbup::smile:
  10.

I really enjoyed that race, I can't wait till the 5000 now, but they do have a tougher lot of Spaniards in that race.

Enjoyable 5 hills in 5 miles race I did yesterday. I did 41:05, it was a very good course. It started going with two hills taking us up to hte heighest point (about 200 feet from the start), along a rough track, then down about 400 feet to the lowest point (Going over a narrow metal swing bridge) via the local railway platform. The last part was on the road, and I will certainly come back next year. a nice small field with 38 finishers. Good to see the British record holder for 100km road running it (Simon Pride), he came second, but he hasn't done much running in the last four years.

I'm not racing this week end, but I then seem to get into my racing season, as I'm racing every weekend till the second weekend in October.

  11.
Well done MNF in your 5 miler. A good time for a hilly race!

Chris Thompson has got through his heat and Mo is now running in heat 2. Looks like "the end of the road" now for Dwain Chambers. There are precious few big events now open to him.

Here's a possible contervsial topic, Tactic's. Last night I watched a great nights athletics at the European Championships. We, that is Team GB did fantastic with 6 medals on the night. But, I'm a little bit puzzled as to what went on in the mens 1500. In football terms we (team GB) played into the oposition's hands (Spanish). If you know the other team do better when they run a slow race, why run a slow race with them. If you do better by running a faster race, why not dictate the race by doing what you do best? Andy Bradley or one of the other two should have gone out alone and force the others to chase him. What do you think.
  12.
You are spot on Steve, we played into the Spaniards hands. They are experts at the slow pace, with sprint finishes and our runners knew that. Quite a pathetic effort in my opinion, 3 runners and none in first 3.

Looking back on the last few times I've seen Lisa Debriskey run on tv, I find it amazing how such a bright young lady with bags of potential can get her tactics in a race so wrong. In both her 800 and 1500 last weekend she will insist on huging the inside and getting herself blocked in and wonder's why she cant take control of a race. On a few times Lisa has gone wide, but at the wrong time. As I remember our own Dame Kelly won most of her races by going wide on the bend where she was best placed to get by those who were in front of her. So why doesn't Lisa adopt the same tactics? Or am I being too harsh. I'm please she's agreed to run in the Commonwealth Games, but someone needs to have a word in her ear about tactics or she needs to change her coach. Have a word with her DK.:smile:
  13.
Lisa does seem to have been getting her tactics wrong lately, which prevents her from using her blistering finishing pace. It might not, however, be quite as cut and dried as it appears, as her opponents might deliberately box her in to prevent her sprinting for the line.
