I think the modern words for describing Paula's performance in the New York Marathone is 'Awesome' also 'Magnifico'. After her performance I think Paula could be a late contender for 'Sports Personality of the year'. Fingers crossed for Bieging. Well done Paula.:cheer::clap:

    Go Paula!

For 2 hours i was sat at my computer doing a mile by mile report on the PR website.

Steve- I dont think 2 races would be enough. TBH, in 2005, she broke the womens only marathon record, and won the world champs, and wasnt even in the top 6.

  1.
    Unbelieveable Paula! So well done!

    Yeahhh Paula was super!!!!!!
  2.
    Princess Paula reigns supreme!

I shouted myself hoarse whilst watching the race on TV. Paula said that Isla was the inspiration that kept her going in the last few miles. It was lovely seeing Paula with Isla after the race. She will soon be "running around."
  3.
well done to paula. aaarrrrr at the end she was holding isla , isla is so cute:bigsmile::bigsmile::grouphug:

Great news. Paula to run this years London marathon. Hope she doesn't over do it before the olympics. I'm sure she can win both. Go Paula.:smile:
  5.
I am a little concerned at Paula running the FLM just four months before Bejing, but Paula, with all her advisors etc. knows what she is doing, and what her fitness is likely to be, so I am confident that she has made the right decision. The London Marathon is flat, as is Bejing, so it will be like a dress rehearsal.

The athletes before the olympic marathon, will be permitted to wear breathing masks prior to the start, but will have to remove them for the race.

    Pollution

  6.
That's right. The Chinese are making great efforts to ensure the air is as clean as possible, by shutting down some of the factories, restricting the number of cars on the roads etc. but it will still be polluted. The Chinese athletes will definitely have an advantage, as they are used to the air.

Good news about Paula taking part in Beiging. As I remember, didn't Dame Kelly get stung by something in the holding came leading up to the Athens olympics. As Paula has been bitten by a spider, that could be a good omen!!! At least Paula's fit to start the marathon. I'm sure she will do well.
  7.

Liz McColgan was bitten by an insect a few years ago, which ruined her races. I can't remember whether it was an Olympics or not.

Paula is determined to run, so the best of luck to her. We will be cheering her all the way!

If you still have DK's book Black, White & Gold. Turn to chapter 19 and then to page 230. Start reading from the paragraph where DK says, 'I was in the best shape of my life'. I thought I was right, Dame Kelly did get bitten before the Athens olympics, by a 'millipede' known as 'forty leggs'. So when you abroad, remember to check your bed linen before you go to sleep.

I went to bed at 9pm Friday night and got up 2am to watch the Olympics. In between a few cat naps I've been able to watch a great day's sport including 5 gold winners by Team GB. Together with West Ham winning their first game of the season, its been a great day.:smile:

I'm going to do the same tonight and hopefully watch Paula win a medal, hopefully gold. As long as Paula gets round safely that's what we should all be hoping for. But, a medal would be nice. GO PAULA.:cheer::crazy::smile:
  10.
I stayed up to watch the marathon and was so tired through lack of sleep that I didn't do my Sunday race.
  11.
Paula has proved to one and all that she isn't a quitter. I hope that she makes a good recovery and is still around in 2012 to take the gold medal. She will be 38, so it is still possible.

Paula to run 2009 London Marathon. There's no doubting she's fit after her performance in New York. As there's still over three years to 2012, I think after London 2009 we will see Paula taking a break to try for a little sister or brother for Isla. I'm looking forward to the 2009 LM already

I see Paula is testing herself out in the New York half marathon before commiting herself the World Championships. Its good that she's testing herself, but there doesn't seem much time between each race. I hope she recovers in time.

She should be fine. I think a run under 69 minutes will make her feel confident. If she did go I cant really see anyone who could challenge her, because paula can put in unbelievably fast last miles. Last year in the NYCM she was consistently running 5.12 miles, from 20 onwards, just seconds from WR pace! Also, lets remember last year, she races 1 week before the NYCM in Portsmouth, and had a hard run, getting a British record. If she didnt think she could recover, she wouldnt be doing it. In 2003 i think she broke the world best for half marathon and the week later won the world half marathon title.

  13.

In Portsmouth Paula knew she was fit, this time Paula doesn't know - it's quite a difference. But I agree with you Jack, if she didn't think she could do it, she wouldn't be running it.

There were two weeks between her races in 2003, but she had run a 5k world best the week before her half Marathon best. And the 5k was a week after doing a 30:51 road 10k - she was certainly in good form then.

You could be right hill strider. When was the last time Paula competed in the UK? How long does it take to get over tonsillitis? It might take 9 months. As we know our lovely hostess DK went through one injury after another in her athletics carree before winner double gold. So we can only hope that Paula will come good in the end and specially in 2012.

9 months? Nooo only about 3-7 days.

HS, if she is pregnant, it may explain the tonsillitis ;)

Good luck to Paula for this Sunday the 1st. If you click on the bbc's Olympics web page there's a written interview with Paula and even longer taped interview where Paula talks about the NYM and her carree. The NYM is being shown live on line, on the bbc's red button (musn't upset the formula 1 people:angry:) and if you can get Eurosport its being shown live on there as well. Sadly I will be out all day Sunday but I'm puting my Sky + box to good use and will watch when I get home.

  16.
Paula is hoping to break the course record and reckons that she can do 2hrs 20mins.
