I'm trying to remain optomistic, but I don't believe that the Olympics will escape swingeing cuts, in common with the essential services.

I saw Boris on tv this afternoon saying it would be wrong to withdraw funds from the olympics now, only to put it back nearer the time. If Mr Cameron thinks the Olympic's are special, I would have thought that he would have the last say on the funding. Another thing that Boris was saying, he thinks that Tessa Jowel should continue to have a big say in the running and organisation of the Olympics.

I was reading the article in the paper about Paula running 14 miles a day while pregnant. I also saw the picture of Paula, her mum Pat and daughter Isla running for charity. From what Paula said, could we have a future marathon champion in Isla? She seems keen to do as her mum does.

I do wonder about that Steve. However, it is very rare for a son or daughter to do as well or better than their parents. It must be so difficult for them to live up to the expectations, just because their parents are world class. The chances are that Isla will take up a different sport after dabbbling in athletics.

As the youngs't of 7, there was always party's going on in my home when I was growing up. That's why I love big occasions and reasons to celebrate, specially sporting occasions and celebrations. I love the big events where we have to compete against the rest of the world. I say 'We' by meaning English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish or collectivily as Team GB.:swingin: I know from being a DJ that you cant please all the people all of the time. You either like the music I'm playing and get up and dance, or you sit there and don't get involved in the party.

Although my favorite sports are Football and Athletics, and I get excited when either of our home nations or team GB are doing well in a major comptition. I also get excited and get behind those from our home country's or team GB when we are taking on the rest of the world in other sports. I'm very patriotic and support our country's and Team GB in what ever we do in sport. Its also why I'm loving 'The World Cup' at the moment. Dispite Rob Greens howler in goal, we have a great chance to go all the way this time.

Because I'm so patriotic, I find it hard to understand those who are also interested in sport, not wanting to support our sports teams and sports people when we are competing. I know of a number of people who have no interest in sport what so ever and don't know how to party. If they don't want to join the party its up to them, to each his own. If any of you are on facebook, you will find a lot of like minded people who have changed their profile picture to portray the English flag, and yes I've seen Scotting, Welsh and Irish people on tv wearing English shirts and flags. So come on you non believers, support our boys in South Africa and join the party. :cheer::clap::swingin::thumbup::boogie::wink::smile:

Rejuvenated Kelly Holmes off and running again

    The Times 2nd July 2010
    By Rick Broadbent Athletics Correspondent

When the dust settles on the 2012 Olympics and the next big thing becomes yesterday’s hero, Dame Kelly Holmes will be waiting over the hill. What goes up must come down and after the hype and glory will come the stark reality of a tickertape depression. “There will be that, ‘Oh my God, what next?’ moment,” the double Olympic champion said.

In case you've not been there yet, there's big news about Dame Kelly's plans for the future on her news page found on the main page of this site.

When I read the head lines, I thought Dame Kelly was going to start competing again, no such luck:smile::rolling: I'm sure all you say is true Dame Kelly. I'm surprised the new government hasn't made a position for you as a minister. There must be some official status they can give you. As always I'm sure you will make a success of your plans for the future.:thumbup::smile:
