Catchup on my activities in May…

29th May

Today I performed a ‘media marathon’ to promote the National School Sport Week.

National School Sport Week is a government initiative managed by the Youth Sport Trust and supported by Norwich Union. It will be a week-long celebration of PE and school sport, shaped by schools and pupils themselves, who have been set the task of coming up with the most innovative activity during the week.

I spent the whole day doing television and radio interviews, including Sky Radio, sky News, Five News, BBC News 24, BBC Radio and more…

More details on the National School Sport Week coming soon in my NSSC pages

27th May

I visited Knole Park in Sevenoaks, for an interview with The National Trust magazine. The park is a magnificent conservation area full of history and with a 1,000-acre deer park.

Later that day I visited the new Sevenoaks Leisure Centre, which is a great sports and leisure facility.

20th May

I joined PM Gordon Brown in announcing the first ever National School Sport Week. The week is set to kick off on Monday 30 June and will be a week-long celebration of PE and school sport.

I visited Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy in Kent where I met some of the pupils and joined in the activites. Everybody was really nice!

19th May

I visited Earlham High School in Norfolk, another great day with pupils and teachers

11th-19th May

My time during that week was dedicated to the filming of the TV programme ‘Superstars’ to be aired on Five in the summer.. I can’t say too much about what happened so you’ll have to watch the programme, but lets just say it was a very competitive week! People came down to the K2 leisure centre where it was filmed to cheer me on it was much appreciated.
Click here to visit my TV appearances page for more details. The dates of the show will be posted when Five make them available.

13th May

I took a bit of time out from the filming of Superstars to attend the ‘All Party Parliamentary Group’ reception at the House of Commons.

The purpose of the group is to protect and nurture the future of athletics (from grassroots to elite including disabled athletes), and to demonstrate the wider social benefits of athletics (improving public health, combat juvenile crime and bring aspirational drive to young people)

I spoke to the assemble of MPs and sports industry people, and the great thing was that some teachers and pupils from my Norwich Union GirlsActive scheme where invited too. Girls from Aireville School in Skipton, St Paul School in Leicester and Norlington boys in Leyton where at the event!

7th May

England’s women football coach Hope Powell had asked me to give her squad a motivational talk ahead of Euro 2009 qualifier against Belarus. I spoke to them and also I asked them to talk about their ultimate ambitions. Every single one of them said they wanted to be a World Cup winner or a European Championships winner.

I am really glad to say that they beat Belarus by 6-0 and qualified for Euro 2009!

3rd May

I attended The Annual Conference of the National Association of Head Teachers in my role as The National School Sport Champion.

The theme of the conference was ‘Dare to be Creative’, participants where school leaders in all education establishments dealing with pupils up to 19 years old.

1st May

I did my 4th return school visit as part of the Norwich union GirlsActive Roadshow 2008. I went to Plymstock School and had a fantastic day meeting the girls and teachers, taking part in the activities and checking out all the improvements brought by the GirlsActive action plan in place. The details of my visit will be posted on the bran new ‘On Camp with Kelly’ website featuring a comprehensive Norwich union GirlsActive section including my roadshows diary.

The new website will go live beginning of June and I will make the announcement on this page very soon.
