Nov - Dec update

Hello everybody!

Here’s some of the highlights of November and December so far…

December

Tuesday 15th

I attended The Sun Military Awards at Imperial War Museum (photo right – jewellery by Boodles, Dress by La Belle Femme, Tunbridge Wells). The Awards, also known as The Millies, honour and award those military heroes of the past year who have made enormous sacrifices and who have served their country with the highest distinction.

Watch out for the exclusive broadcast on ITV1, 21st December at 9pm: A Night of Heroes, presented by Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden.

Monday 14th

I joined Transport Secretary Lord Adonis on a return trip from St Pancras to Rochester, to officially launch a new 140mph High Speed Train service. They named one of the fast trains after me! Prime Minister Gordon Brown greeted us back at St Pancras station to help mark the occasion.

Sunday 13th

I attended BBC Sport Personality of the Year (photo right – jewellery by Boodles, Dress by La Belle Femme Tonbridge).
I presented The Team Of The Year award with Joe Calzaghe to the England Men’s Cricket team.

Wednesday 9th

I had meetings with some of my On camp with Kelly athletes and coaches based in the North of England at SportCity in Manchester, to review 2009 and also look ahead and set goals for 2010. I had met with athletes and coaches in other areas of the country end of November and earlier this month to make sure that I did have a catch up with everybody before the year ends. You can find out the details and more On Camp with Kelly news on www.oncampwithkelly.co.uk

Later I attended the second of my DKH Legacy Trust ‘Get on Track’ event in Knowsley, which gives disadvantaged young people the chance to work with world class athletes, and provides stepping stones to volunteering, work placements and employment opportunities.

Tuesday 8th

I went to Manchester for the Bt Backing Talent event held by my charity the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. We have created this programme to help talented young sports people to stay in and excel in sport.

You can find out exactly what happened on the day: Click here to watch the video!

You can find out a lot more about ‘Backing Talent’ and ‘Get on Track’ by visiting my charity’s website www.dkhlegacytrust.org

November

Wednesday 25th

I was the guest speaker at the ClubSport Stirling Awards. The ClubSport Stirling is a voluntary organisation working with local sports clubs, giving clubs expert advice, developing coaches and volunteers, helping clubs to grow and develop and more …

You can find more information on their website www.clubsportstirling.org.uk

Wednesday 18th

I went to Birmingham University for one to one meetings with some of my On Camp with Kelly athletes

Sunday 15th

I attended the Variety Club 57th Annual Showbiz Awards 2009 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London (photo below – jewellery by Boodles).
The Variety Club is one of the charities I support; The awards ceremony celebrates the showbiz world and helps raise awareness of the Variety Club’s tireless work providing transport and facilities for the disabled children.

Olympic countdown – 1000 days to go celebration

Sunday 1st

I joined Simon Lederman to co-present his radio show BBC London 2012 Live. I interviewed Olympic hopefuls including one of my On Camp with Kelly athletes Tara Bird. I also played some of my favourite tunes, including ‘Simply the Best’ by Tina Turner which is a significant memory of my own Olympic success.

Saturday 31st October

I appeared on the National Lottery live show on BBC 1 to help with another one of the 1000 days countdown celebration. I pushed the button which lit the spectacular BT tower fireworks!

The National Lottery’s players are contributing almost £2.2 billion to the cost of the stadia and infrastructure that will be used during London 2012 including the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatic Centre and the Velo Park. These will provide world class facilities during The Games but also a lasting legacy for grass roots and elite sport after 2012.

Friday 30th

1000 days to go celebration

I joined Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee Sebastian Coe to launch the one of the 2012 event showcasing the support that BT is offering London 2012 at the National Portrait Gallery. The project will create a photographic record of the people across the UK – both high-profile and behind the scenes – who collectively are making the Games happen. We unvelled the first group of portraits taken by renowned photographer Brian Griffin.

Thursday

Commonwealth Games – the Road to Delhi 2010
I attended the Queen’s Baton Relay at Buckingham Palace. Queen’s Baton Relay is one of the longest standing traditions of the Commonwealth Games. The Baton’s journey symbolises the unity and shared ideals of the Commonwealth Nations.
This was a great opportunity for communities across England to be part of the Games preparations and really start get behind the England team as the build up to Delhi begins.

In the Evening, I attended the UK Indian Business Dinner. As President of the Commonwealth Games, I spoke about what business means to sport, highlighting the legacy of the Games and the positive effect of sport on communities. My aim was to inspire business leaders to support the next generation of sportsmen and women.

I’ll try to come back for more updates soon, so keep in touch!

Love, Kelly
