July update

Saturday 26th july

I was at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace where seven ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes took on three leading young athletes from overseas in an OCWK 800m race.

See below a photo with the girls after the race

Monday 21st August

I did a Live web TV Show to talk about nutrition and give tips on how to look after your body as part of the Wake Up to Breakfast campaign.

Wednesday 16th July

This year I have been signed as the face of Kellogg’s Wake up to Breakfast campaign.

The new TV ad which I am very chuffed with will be on the screens from 4th August.

As part of my relationship with Kellogg’s I was asked to go up to their headquarters in Manchester to say hi, and also to help with their internal sports day. It was Hilarious! With the ‘Big Kids’ calling themselves names like ‘Super Hero’s’ and ‘Go Commando’ etc…the day was full of fun laughter, and I did so much shouting that I lost my voice for the following couple of days…

Further update 16th July

I am really proud to report that it has been a fantastic week for the
‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes across the three major athletics competitions which took place last week

I flew out to the IAAF World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland (8-13 July), to watch the action and support my four ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes who were part of the Norwich Union GB Team!

Emma Pallant (with me on the picture – top right) won a bronze medal in 4:17.06 in the women 1500m, Alison Leonard came fourth in the women’s 800m and clocked a new PB of 2:02.15, David Forrester qualified for the final of the men’s 1500m where he finished ninth in 3:51.00 and Chris Smith finished sixth in his first round heat in 1:53.36.

While I was in Poland my ‘On Camp with Kelly’ manager Emily was in Birmingham supporting more of our athletes taking part in the Aviva National Championships incorporating Team GB Selection Trials, Birmingham, with Hannah England winning bronze in the 1500m women’s final, Three OCWK athletes reaching the women’s 800m final and two of our male athletes competing in the 800m and 1500m finals.

15 athletes competed in finals of the ESAA Sainsbury’s English Schools’ Track & Field Championships in Gateshead with 9 of them winning medals!

While at the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz I helped out with the IAAF’s Anti-Doping Outreach Programme.

An interactive computer quiz in 16 different languages was set up at the warm-up track and athletes had to answer 10 questions about anti-doping and had the chance to win prizes. It’s all about young athletes learning about this important subject in a fun way. The athletes also signed a banner pledging their commitment to drug free sport.

I helped some of the athletes with the quiz and spoke to them about why it’s important to compete clean and signed some autographs of course. I was joined by 800m world record holder Wilson Kipketer who is an IAAF Ambassador.

On 6th July The Sunday Times published my ‘Time and Place’ interview, where I recall my life in South Africa and the time running up to Athens 2004 Olympics.

National School Sport Week
30th June – 4th July 2008

I have met so many people during last week, it has been amazing and I want to say thank you to everyone who made my visit so special. It was really nice to be part of your day.

For those of you I did not get to speak to personally, just remember my days only go well because of all your enthusiasm and hard work, and your willingness to make a difference. Have fun no matter what, well done and most of all keep smiling!

If you haven’t already do take a look at my NSSC diary pages, I have kept a live diary throughout last week, writing my updates in between visits in the helicopter flying me around the country! There’s 5 pages of updates (one for each day) with loads of pictures and even some videos.

Click here for my day by day reports

Some of you I have met last week sent me some lovely messages!
