Sainsbury's Active Kids

I am once again supporting Sainsbury's Active Kids in 2008 as part of my ongoing campaign to inspire UK children to ‘get off the sofa’ and lead a more active lifestyle.

The campaign was launched in 2005 when I did a television advert filmed at my old school Hugh Christie Technology College in Tonbridge.
Sainsbury's Active Kids was setup to help address declining levels in exercise and growing levels of obesity among children.

This year Sainsbury’s has donated £18m worth of equipment, taking the four year total to £70m.

Active Kids is based on a system of vouchers that schools can exchange for a variety of sports and activity equipment and experiences. Customers are given one Active Kid voucher for every £10 spent in store. Customers are rewarded with extra Active Kids vouchers when they buy healthy products such as fruit and vegetables. The next Active Kids scheme will launch in store in February 2009.

Active Kids is about influencing young people in a very positive way by providing them with live experiences, activities and equipment.

It involves an instore voucher collection scheme which encourages children to be more active and eat healthily - and have loads of fun in the process!

Active Kids is a success – and it’s growing every year.

Last year alone a record 233 million Active Kids vouchers were redeemed.
So schools, guide and scout groups around the country were able to exchange these vouchers for a share of an amazing £18 million worth of Active Kids equipment and experiences. That’s an average of £630 per school or group!

What’s new for 2008?

You can now use your vouchers to go and see our top sports stars up close at live sporting events. Rugby Union, netball or basketball.

Fitness and agility - “Skipping isn’t just for girls: all boxers use it to help their stamina and co-ordination.”
